Following Matthew Bourne’s production of The Red Shoes double win at this year’s Olivier Awards for Best Entertainment and Best Theatre Choreographer we thought to share with you a few facts that you may not know!
Matthew is now the recipient of seven Olivier Awards, making him the equal top-ever winner alongside Dame Judi Dench and designer William Dudley. Matthew has won Best Theatre Choreographer four times for My Fair Lady, Play Without Words, Mary Poppins and The Red Shoes, which is more than any other choreographer. He has also been nominated across more categories than other nominees for Best Director, Best Theatre Choreographer, Best New Dance Production, Outstanding Achievement in Dance and Best Entertainment.
New Adventures has received a staggering 12 Olivier Award nominations and our first nomination was in fact for “Town and Country” for Outstanding Achievement in Dance in 1992. “Town and Country” has been touring as part of Early Adventures, a programme of Matthew’s early works, which is now at the end of its UK tour at the Royal & Derngate, Northampton, on until tomorrow evening (AND only a short commute from London!).
