This week is the turn of CHRIS MARNEY, who is currently playing the role of Cyril Vane in DORIAN GRAY. Chris will also make his debut as Basil Hallward this season. THE CAR MAN was Chris' first experience with NEW ADVENTURES, but he is perhaps best known for playing The Prince in Matthew Bourne's SWAN LAKE all over the world. Chris was also a founder member of GEORGE PIPER DANCES (Ballet Boyz) and has danced in many other productions as well as regularly creating his own choreography

WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST MEMORY OF WATCHING DANCE?
Watching Mother Goose at the Queens Theatre, Hornchurch, when I was 5, and telling my Parents that that is what I wanted to do. (Be on stage, rather than that particular show!)

WHERE DID YOU DO YOUR DANCE TRAINING?
At Italia Conti from 14-16yrs old, London Studio Centre for a year then a decision to concentrate on Ballet took me to Central School of Ballet for my final 2 years.

FAVOURITE JOB NOT WITH AMP OR NEW ADVENTURES?
Being in George Piper Dances when the Balletboyz opened the company was great, but working in Sweden with Kylian was also a highlight.

WHEN DID YOU START WORKING WITH AMP OR NEW ADVENTURES?
1999

WHAT WAS YOUR DEBUT ROLE WITH THE COMPANY?
Cygnet in Swan Lake

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SHOW TO PERFORM AND WHY?
Swan Lake. The show has really changed some people’s lives. Being part of telling that amazing story is something very special.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ROLE YOU HAVE PERFORMED AND WHY?
For AMP- The Prince in Swan Lake. It’s one of those parts that requires you to find everything you have to give as an artist.
And for ROH2 the role of the Thief in ‘The Thief of Baghdad’ by Will Tuckett. It pushed me to find my voice and pace myself!

WHICH ROLE THAT YOU HAVE NOT PERFORMED WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO TRY IN THE FUTURE AND WHY?
Well I am currently working on Basil Hallward in Dorian Gray, for the forthcoming tour. It’s a great and very different role to the one I already play in the Show.

WHICH FELLOW NEW ADVENTURES DANCER DO YOU ADMIRE THE MOST AND WHY?
Belinda Chapman for the honesty in all her roles on stage

Tokyo and New York

Haha

WHO ARE YOUR DANCE HEROES, PAST AND PRESENT?
Mats Ek and many colleagues.

TIGHTS OR BAGGIES?
Baggy tights.

JOCK OR NOT?
Jock (especially when in white tights for Dorian Gray)

BALLET OR CONTEMPORARY?
The mix of the two.

MATINEE OR EVENING?
Definitely Evening.

REHEARSAL OR PERFORMANCE?
Performance.
