DANCE EAST NAMES RE:BOURNE AS NEW ASSOCIATE COMPANY
Posted on Friday 6 May 2011
The partnership will work towards increasing the profile and recruitment for the DanceEast Academy and develop projects that will bring young people together from the region and London and encourage the development of dancers and choreographers through workshops and performance opportunities. The aim is to bring a whole new generation of young people into direct contact with New Adventures and Matthew Bourne’s unique and extraordinary blend of dance/theatre, as well as raising the profile of DanceEast and their base at the Jerwood DanceHouse in Ipswich.
Vicky Evans from Re:Bourne has been working with DanceEast Academy students on a new work to be premiered at the opening of the new State Ballet School in Berlin in June. Vicky Evans joined Matthew Bourne's Adventures in Motion Pictures in 1995 and became a member of Matthew's New Adventures in 2002.
Matthew Bourne (Artistic Director, New Adventures) said. “I am delighted that DanceEast have invited Re:Bourne (Adventures in Dance), the charitable arm of New Adventures to become an Associate Company. This builds on the work Re:Bourne has been developing whose principal aim is to expand the accessibility and understanding of dance/theatre and to encourage widespread participation in dance both as participants and audience members. We have built up an excellent relationship with audiences across this part of the country over a number of years. I believe this will be strengthened by the partnership and offer exciting new opportunities for young people in particular, to connect with dance.”
Assis Carreiro (Artistic Director and Chief Executive), DanceEast said: “DanceEast is delighted to welcome Re:Bourne as one of its new associate companies. Re:Bourne brings a new dimension to our outreach and learning programmes and offers a brilliant opportunity. Matthew Bourne has brought dance to the masses through his award winning productions and with Re:Bourne, we can now bring this wonderfully accessible work to young people in the East of England.”
